Here is my wish.
The role of a rugby MD who cannot communicate and has no rugby of business intelligence is made redundant and two new posts are created. A commercial chief executive with business intelligence and a rugby chief executive with rugby intelligence. Ruddock takes on this role until AWJ retires and we have a seemless succession. A head coach is appointed who can build an attacking game. Ideally he would have contacts in a market like SA to improve our nwq value. Robbie fleck is a name that comes to mind. Hogg stays as forwards coach and we find a new defence coach. The commercial CEO takes charge off the off field budget and we stop wasting so much money on so many people who offer no value. The social media and advertising around the Cardiff game must have been designed and authorised by imbeciles.
After watching that performance again today, where there was no lack of effort just a totally outcoached team whether in the basics of attack or defensive structures.
Why oh why can we not get a decent coach for those fundamental positions, how come the Irish can identify and get the likes of the SA coach of the recent WC, Schmidt, Larkham, Lam, Lancaster the list is endless, I just hope Ruddock can identify and give names to the Board and his recomendations are acted upon, not just Welsh even somebody like Ryan at the Dragons would be a massive improvement on what we have at the moment, the time for jobs for the boys has to end NOW.
What a very good interview, which was well thought out and excellently and succinctly put with what needs to be done in the short, intermediate and long term objectives, for myself I would very much like Mike to stay on in for a decent period of time, although reading between the lines I think it would be very difficult to prise him away from Ireland on a long term basis.
Whole heartedly agree with Fiddlers assessment especially around the issues of Hore and his interpretation of how the region should be run. There was ever a chance of Hore's model ever being working especially when he ran off as things started to go bad. He did the region no good at all and I firmly believe he knew that his model was doomed but gave his loyal followers the driving seat as a goodwill gesture, a leaving gift that saw the demise of everything that was created both good and bad from the original set up.
Not meaning to be insensitive to anyone but we needed a everything from his era to be be burnt away remove all the drift wood and the bad seeds before things can grow again. The embodiment of the Ospreys was created by the financial investment from the likes of Cuddy and a number of other stakeholders, no matter what people's opinions are of them are from the past or present they brought in the depth of rugby players that created the Ospreys culture and brand by bringing in the overseas players like Jerry Collins, Marshall, Tiatai, Marty Holler that established the professionalism and ethos that AWJ, Tips, and others bought into and hopefully under new management will cultivate again. The soul of the region is not lost and can come to life again from the embers if we can keep the likes of Tip's etc with us.
Ruddock stays as Elite performance director until the end of the season.
So when can we expect the next pile of crap press conference from Bully? Any bets on what cliched nonsense he comes out with?
I have a problem with Howley, not that he doesn't offer something from his playing days experience or the time he spent at with Gatland and Company. Yes he would have expanded his knowledge and experience and upped skilled over time gaining a great deal from being given more responsibility and part of the Lions management. I also do not have an issue with any vice he may have or may not have these are part of human nature and can be controlled or may not interfere with someone's ability to do the job.
My problem with his gambling is that over the duration of his time with the Wales squad, he appears not to be able to occupy himself, was it something along the lines that the fact that as a coach of the welsh squad it didn't offer him enough.
True it is a different kettle of fish to running a team on a week by week basis, but, and here is my main issue with Rob Howley, he has no experience of coaching a club let alone a regional team no matter what position or level, any experience he had of the type was over a decade ago which means all his current CV will be based on how to manage teams that are amalgamated from other teams to play in short term competitions. For me I would rather someone that knows more than working with the best of the best for six to twelve weeks, yes he would make a good consultant but only on whether a player has the ability or skills but could he get the best out of the weakest or youngest of players to motivate them beyond their current levels.
I’d have no problem with that.
When seeing the previous posters reference to Clive Griffiths and May, something came to my mind, don't shoot the messenger, but how would everyone feel about Rob Howley coming to us in some capacity? as I'm pretty sure I've read that his ban ends in June
Clive Griffiths has announced he’s leaving Doncaster in May and WoL are all over it suggesting he could be coming to us.
TRP also says AWJ recovery not going well and may need groin operation.
Just read TRP today and it suggests Ospreys are trying to sign Ruddock to a longer term deal but in the role of Elite Performance director rather than Head Coach.
Honestly, I’ve lost any hope that sense will prevail. How many times, and for how long have a lot of people called out the obvious failings with both the on and off field setup. We have cried out for a proven coach for as long as we have existed. Now I’m not knocking the people who have continually pumped their own money in, Davies, James etc. But what on Earth are/have they been thinking. The off field setup has been a disaster for far to long now. Surely they must be wondering what the hell is happening to their investment? Ultimately it is them who call the shots. Ruddocks review is probably the most significant event in our history. The actions that happen after it is completed will mean if we fight back, or we may as well just turn the lights off.
I believe Paul Whapham authorised the Netflix post (which had to be taken down after the senior players were livid due to its lack of respect) - Whapham appointed Jamie Rees and oversees everything on marketing side.
