Sensible well written statement. We must be polite and non confrontational in public and very steely in private and aware of the wiles of our opponents around the negotiating table. Having read the three articles in the Times WOL and BBC News it is obvious the first author wanted to do more damage to us than the other two and ignored the nuances. Anybody who has read this journos postings on Scarlet Fever will have no doubt where his loyalty lies and how he uses his position to encourage his fans and discourage Osprey fans. Make no mistake we are in a fight and always have been. Just bear in mind propaganda is a tool of war.
Ospreys have been working closely and collaboratively as a member of the Professional Rugby Board (PRB) to devise a strategy that will ensure sustainability and raise performance across the professional game in Wales. As part of this process the PRB has commissioned research from a number of sources, including Oakwell, to ensure the strategy is informed by deep and independent insight. This research will inform, but not dictate the strategy. We remain bullish about the future of rugby in Wales and look forward to further success and Ospreys to remain the most successful Welsh region. In the meantime, we looking forward to Sunday’s game against the Dragons as we chase the Welsh Shield and encourage our supporters to show their support at the Swansea.com as they did last weekend.
Potentially, it's guesswork really but I'd imagine if we win on Sunday we can stick it to the WRU in some way shape or form and let Buttress continue to air dirty laundry out in the open on twitter.
As much as we need clarity and a strong refusal of potentially being culled, based on what Garcia said at the recent Q&A I can't see us engaging in any sort of speculation.
@MorristonRhys the Ospreys do not engage in any speculation as you say, but for this they might make an exception. We will have to wait and see if they say anything.
It could play out 2 ways OFF, yes it could put us off our game, but if properly channelled, we could use it to show everybody if out of us and the Dregs and we give them a right stuffing they would have to be the one to go.
The funding is all part of the negotiations isn't it ? Say its being cut to £18m and then agree to £21M as part of the 'debate' ..... it doesn't make sense to cut regions and cut funding, as any regions left would get the same / less than they are now
@Allthewaythere You need to read Wales on line and BBC news to see this is a bit more nuanced than Scarletnut has reported in his exclusive. In fairness to him all jornos look for the sensational headline. There appear to be four options put forward in a consultants report for PRB to consider in which cutting a region to save money is one option that is included.
If we merged/folded and pro rugby left Swansea that would finish the game for me. I struggled for a couple of seasons when regions were introduced, this would top it. I refuse to pay the WRUin to watch TW as it is, I just hope that professional and rugby reasons come out on top and we'll be fine 👍
@paul.rogers83 No it is clearly the union. Wales on line says we are under consideration because of lack of any rights over our stadium and the dragons because of lack of private ownership. We rent the stadium from the swans now and it may be why rumours have been circulating over St Helens development/improvements. Whilst this has come as news to us I doubt it has to Y11.
Ospreys need to announce something quickly as said by @Fiddler . This is now getting some traction on other media channels and social media. Could get nasty quickly without a statement.
I would love to know how the W.R.U. could ever justify merging or getting rid of the Ospreys while keeping the Dragons, they would be the laughing stock of world rugby.
They have tried in twice in 2014 and 2019. We just have to hope we are ready for them and have a strategy which probably has to involve the threat of litigation.
It will be interesting to see how Y11 respond. This article has been broken by a supposed independent journalist who is a totally committed Scarlet fan and acts as their unpaid PR consultant in the media.
It is a deliberate attempt to damage and destabilise us by leaking in advance of the PRB even considering the proposal. We need to be on a war footing quickly.
This is just the next stage of a war.
Thats why we have a Trust. Time to getting our thinking caps on.

I'm sure that the Ospreys will say something about this when they are ready but it is certainly not the ideal prep for the Dragons game on Sunday.

Why is the funding being cut? Especially after they’ve just received 50m in cvc funding. staggering
The interesting quote for me was from the slime bag Phillips.
funding is being reduced from £23 million in 22/23 to £18 million in 23/24.
3 SUPER regions sharing £18 million.

We as supporters need to protest this in the strongest possible manner.
People on the union are feathering their own nests and it can’t be allowed to happen with no fight.
Garcia is on record as saying these things should be kept private, lets see how he responds to this.
