Apparently, it was announced at todays WRU AGM that the WRU are going to be taking a stake in all 4 regions. Have to see the finer details, but what could possibly go wrong with that!
Edit to add that its apparently not a done deal for the WRU'ing to take a 20% share in the teams. If thats the case, why state that to the press?
I am not sure 20% has been on the table for some time. I think it is now a golden share that gives them input into certain decisions to assist the national team. If operated fairly and tied down properly in legal terms it is not a crazy idea in principle. The issue is going to be how to effectively tie it down legally to prevent future abuse.
Accept that things must change for the good of the game in Wales
But concerns relate to
Culpability of Walker, C Woodward suggested a proper rugby person who is able to challenge and suggested Warbiton replaces Walker and is involved in the review , would advocate that if he would accept
Gatland wants more control of players , playing time and placing them in teams ( past politics would favour Cardiff to other Regions)
Return of National Academy instead of controlled by Regions , again the Cardiff issue
The basis obviously works in Ireland, but they are better funded and can also afford marquee players as mentors
I am no fan of the WRU. But we are only still alive because of a handful of individuals and we have to put our faith in them to make the right call for our future. Unless we intend chucking tens of millions in ourselves we have to rely on their judgement to secure our future.
If I belonged to any of those businesses I'd want that lot as far away as possible.
