So after pushing Racing92 for the majority of the game last week, the Ospreys begin preparation for their trip to the North West to face the Sale Sharks. News has just broken of the Wales 6 Nations Squad and someone said that the 8 named Ospreys should not play this match as they would not feature against Edinburgh in a week's time. Now while that is fine in theory, the very short turnaround will mean that probably all 8 of them will feature in some capacity against Sale.
I think the 23 will look something like...
N Smith G Thomas D Lake E Taione T Francis T Botha/M Fia A Beard R Davies W Griffiths J Morgan E Roots M Morris S Cross
R Webb RMW G Anscombe J Thomas A Cuthbert O Watkin M Collins L Morgan M Protheroe K Williams
Discuss.
Just as a point of discussion these players were not available for the match on Saturday - Nagy, Cuthbert, North, Watkin, Giles, Anscombe, Webb, J Morgan, W Griffiths, Lydiate, R Davies, AWJ, Francis, Parry, G Thomas plus B Davies, J Tipuric and Myler. A team that would be competitive in any competition was not available.
Listening to Booths post match interview, I must confess I felt a bit sorry for him. Ridiculous what we have to contend with when it comes to budgets. I have been a really harsh critic in the last rounds but this time, as Fiddler says, he is keeping as much of his powder dry for matches where we can actually be competitive. I have changed my opinion slightly because he actually spoke up for the fans for the first time in my memory. He actually said he felt for the fans. I still feel however that the type of rugby we play is abysmal and he has got to start work on that, we will never outmuscle the likes of Sale and the French sides, so we need a new approach, some new moves, new ideas.
I knew today was going to be a blowout, I only hope that we can put our league form back on track and have a better run in to the season end. I still, think Boothe has got us on the right path if we can keep our better players fit.
thanks @Fiddler
How did lake, Deaves and Sutton do?
I entirely agree but are they the best on offer in the region if so we have little option but to play them or are we losing players because of lack of development or selection. Ratti in particular is now being converted to a no8 by Cardiff.
We had twenty three full time professional rugby players and for me only Deaves showed any appetite for the game. A lot of that squad are the future for us and do not fill me with much enthusiasm.
I struggle to comprehend how our tackling has gotten so bad these past few weeks?
The score line flattered us we were completely outplayed in every department. I hope I am proved wrong but I have yet to see anything in our halfbacks or centres to fill me with much hope for the future. We have to offer more than a box kick from scrumhalf or crash ball from the centre. I never expected a win but we were lucky not to concede a hundred points.
Utter humiliation - we are a laughing stock.
That win against Northampton in 2018 is probably the last ever win we have in Europe.
14-3 Penalty goal Ospreys Hawkins
Sam Cross down with what looks like a bad leg injury. Possibly his ACL from the looks of it. Morgan Morris on.
TRY Sale. Curry in at the side, wins the turnover and Sale go from 70 out. 14-0
Try Sale - after 2 missed opportunities Sale finally cross after 14 minutes as the Ospreys get caught narrow again. 7-0.
Can’t see anything other than a humiliation.
Why send Morgan out on loan, and then pick possibly the two worst scrum half’s in the league the following week? Surely it’s better to see how he works out with us?
Real talk: is it worth us trying to qualify for this competition?
Are we in the top 24 sides in European pro rugby?
Sigh……….
That pack looks underwhelmingly low on grunt.
Is this a dry run for the Edinburgh game next week?
