I think this season is going to very transitional as we saw by being smashed into oblivion by Ulster.
The major priorities for Booth is overhauling a terribly constructed squad inherited from Tandy and Clarke - we need (in order of priority) for 2021/22 -
A first choice ten to replace Anscombe
A dominant ball carrying 8 to replace Gareth Evans
A second choice ten (who can also play 15) to consolidate the Price/Myler contracts into one position
A middle jumping lock to replace the Bradley Davies contract but who will probably be playing in relief of AWJ
A physically robust winger, probably replacing the Scott Williams and Hanno Dirksen contracts, allowing North to slide inside to outside centre
A physical 5/6 hybrid in the style of Kirsten at Exeter to replace Lydiate’s contract, one for one swap
A TH to replace Fia
A specialist openside to cover Tipuric
Thoughts?
Given the WRU are not now paying 80% of the elite squad wages I think we can consider ourselves quite grateful that some of the names touted about previously never materialised.
Thank you all for the replies...I am just frustrated at watching what we're producing on a regular basis and am desperate to see humungous improvements over the next season or 2, as we all are I know 😁
The £5 million loan from the WRU has been agreed and formalised.
Semi Manu seems to be playing well for Otago, I wonder if he is still an option?
Please let us sign Filo!
Just noticed Hogg is still on website as forwards coach. Wonder if he has been on furlough all this time?
I wouldn’t look for a 9 - we have enough young talent to make up squad depth and potentially an emerging player in Morgan. I think a lock to shore up the lineout - someone like JP Du Preez now the Cheetahs are going pop - would be ideal.
If it were me I would target Mitchell Hunt and Sam Davies who can both cover 10 and 15. Will Griff John as my tight head. Sam Lewis as my back row cover. There should be plenty of value in the nwq market for a hybid 5/6 and powerful quick winger. Finding an decent 8 will be the hardest to get right.
A while back Fissler said that Booth's shopping list included a 10 and 8 for this season. Another 10 a big carrying winger an experienced 9 a tight head a lock and a back row for next season.
It was rumoured some while back that Booth wanted a forwards coach and a technical scrum coach. I have not been particularly impressed with our scrum since Clarke left.
I think we need a coach but the real edge is in terms of getting better players who actually mesh together. We are so unbalanced and so disparate at the moment.
Boris Stankovich has left Leicester for a forwards coach job any chance it’s us ?
