I for one was very excited when he joined us, but it seemed to coincide with the start of our aimless kicking game. I know that stats say that the team that kicks the most wins, but couldn’t execute and frankly it was. Evoking dire to watch. In the last few games we at least appear to want to try a more expansive game, but it looks like our 9/10 can’t control things.
Obviously we are not playing well, are low on confidence and the coaching staff have to take a lot of responsibility for that. Back in the day (as they say) we would have beaten that Saracens team with some ease. We lost by seven points, outscored them two tries to one but the nail in the coffin was the place kicking. Vunipola kicked five penalties and a conversion, Price one penalty and one conversion. I thought Lewington took his try brilliantly; if one of our wings had done that we would have been over the moon. As has been said by others there is a fair amount of dead wood that needs to be removed for next season. I suspect the Scarlets are hurting as much as we are today. I wonder what team will be selected for next week?
Yes totally agree, and to think when he came here I and others were enthused and especially with the capture of Anscombe which I would say he had no small measure in bringing about, this really is a sad episode in our history, which going by his past achievements with the Blues and called into the TW setup was unexpected.
After re-watching the Saracen's game last night and dwelling on the way we let Saracen's take control and wrestle the game away from us I have come to the conclusion that Sherratt needs to go now or be removed as a lead coach with influence on the game as it is being run and played.
I am assuming he had some responsibility for the decisions throughout the game especially in the last 20 minutes. I am not referring to taking AWJ off and I am an advocate for managing him carefully and that we should not be dependent on him. However, the strategy for the rest of the game was clearly never going to get us back up the field. I hate a kicking match as much as anyone else but when it is needed we need to ignore the criticism and use it as a weapon just as the opposition do. Because we are playing at home the opposition know that a prolonged ping pong game will get the home crowd shouting hence it is easy to wind up the home team especially when they are chasing the game by kicking the ball deep into their territory time and time again.
We do not have the power or skills levels in the team to control the game when we are deep into our half. Hence we saw the scrum-halfs kicking into touch as an exit strategy this tactic relies on the opposition making mistakes at the throw in or soon after to allow us to get further up the field hence we are not in control of the game they are. I can see why Gatland had an emphasis on keeping the ball in game time and trusting the fitness of the team to defend constantly because out of defense comes mistakes by the opposition. I know I sound like Clarke but the difference here is that he didn't install a regime that created a defense at all costs attitude, oddly enough that was the only good aspect of Tandy's time with us especially at the start of his regime.
Thus whether he does have any impact either directly or indirectly Sherratt needs to leave so that there is only one voice and especially because I am convinced that either his heart is not in it or he actually is not bothered whether we win or lose because he's alright Jack. I am not using him as a scapegoat I really feel we should only keep and use the people that recognise we are fighting for our lives, if we lose any more games we will find next season harder because there will be no confidence going into it, this recession could become a depression and misery that reduces down to a state of gehenna that would take years to recover from; my best example 'The Dragons'.
I would rather promote a young coach up from the academy and accept his inexperience than have Sherratt who may have mentally left the building, in business I always followed the adage if you sack someone or they hand in the notice get rid them of them before they do more damage.
@ospreysfanforum Not sure he should go as we are so short handed but he should have no further input in team selection. We need to see what Mackenzie and Cai can do covering 10. Aled today in TRP looks to be heading to Bath so Venter and Morgan need a run at 9. Ruddock has to take over team selection. A lot depends on how quickly a head coach is named though. If it was somebody like Fleck then no reason not to let him go.
Also in TRP today Pivac and the union have rejected our valuation of Moriarty for next season.
"Spending time with my family" PR speak for I aint hanging round here for longer than I need to / we don't want him hanging round here for longer than we can afford him to ( delete as appropriate )
I just saw this on the Ospreys website. Been with us for just over one season and wants to spend more time with his family? Right! It's not exactly a twenty four hour job. Very disappointed in what he has brought TBH. I have always liked Scott Williams a s player but even he has become very ordinary. Any volunteers?
From the mouth of Dan Griffiths "As a club we want to play a fast, attractive, successful brand of rugby. Moving forward the focus will be on recruiting an attack coach, and players, that will add quality to what we have and help us achieve this."
@paul.rogers83 it is not as though our backs are cutting teams to shreds is it? That could be down to the players' ability or lack thereof, quality of ball or the type of game we want to play.

Now on the Ospreys website but a rehash of the original story - https://www.ospreysrugby.com/news/sherratt-leaves-liberty
Matt Sherratt to Worcester Warriors.
Mark Jones (former Scarlet and RGC coach) lined up to take over.

Well he is Millwards mate so he stands a very good chance:).
Apparently we are in talks with a "World Class COACH again"

I'd let him go now. done nothing for us. Ask him to ake Millward with him too!
I guess we will see the limit of our ambition with who we replace him with. Always sad to see someone leave, but we are crying out for a “refresh”.
