I know we have a problem with a suitable replacement for 10 but no rugby club or region should rely on one or two players, Anscombe was always a risk after he was injured and especially now he would only have ever played a few games. When he played for the Blues I was always one of the people who found fault but recognised he had some talent and offered the welsh squad an alternative strategy partnering Biggar. Thus the point is we should never have relied on him in the same way we rely on a few others in the squad. We need to work off a different position, with Webb and a string of talented scrum half's we need to change our game plan to work from a 9 or centre.
I don't think any team can carry a passenger at 10. We saw that last year with Price and Hook. On the 10 front Fissler in TRP confirmed Anscombe still has issues with knee and Booth in market for 10. also confirmed Owen Williams will want to come back after his Japan contract but that will be too late for Ospreys. No names given by Fissler. In same paper Bywater said Booth in market for an 8 and a 10 and said Flood was being considered for short term contract as well. Also said Bomb is in negotiations to return but Quins want a release fee. Faletau is now being linked with Beziers who would pay Bath a release fee. Final bit of news was Hogg very unhappy with way his release was handled whilst on furlough. Another wedge of compensation coming. How much money and bad vibes among the players and coaches is this persistence with an MD out of his depth going to cost us
It is certainly looking that way. I believe that the first surgery has not worked and therefore he requires a second op that will rule him out for much of the season.
Just our luck, frigging ridiculous. wru need to do something about this considering he was injured in a game he shouldn't have been playing in. gutted for him and us .
Makes it pretty important the new 10 is starter material. We also need to think about the back up. Price is worse than useless and I am not sure I trust the young Caiser to be ready for the job yet. Do we actually recognise how Price simply costs you games and we need to be thinking about a back up. The Scarlets are not going to use all four of Patchell Jones Costello and O'Brien and all are better than Price.
If the 10 is from the NZ Super Rugby Aotearoa there are not too many to choose from as the good young ones will have AB ambitions and the oldest one is DC. My money would be on Jackson Garden-Bachop or maybe Otere Black.
You need to consider visa issues with players from SH. It is often very difficult if they don't have a British/EU passport to get a visa for a non international player to be any more than a loan player.
Just went out for some petrol and got a copy of TRP from weekend. In it is says Hook has taken on role of kicking coach and that Booth is looking for a forwards coach attack coach and scrum technical coach all ready for the august 22nd kick off.
I think it is because the attacking game is now played in pods and sequences with forwards often taking on a similar role to backs in the pod system that the backs coach will generally design the attacking system and the role can often be one and the same.
With defence you sometimes see the defence coach also take charge of the breakdown approach because that becomes key to organising your defence.
The traditional divide between backs and forwards is no longer as clear cut as it was because at various stages backs and forwards are asked to do the same job. There will always generally be a set piece coaching specialist on the staff.
All speculation Eirian, although the Hogg gone bit does have one of the more solid sources on the Fever behind it.
Filo coming back has been rumoured for years but never happened. He is currently coaching at assistant level at the Auckland NPC/ITM side.
As for AJ he seriously upset Rob Davies when he sided with Lewis and I suspect Rob can bear a grudge. That said Mike James called Scott Gibbs a rugby prostitute and three years later was welcoming him back.
When MA Murphy raised it on another thread I was sceptical as Hogg is under contract as is Filo. Given it has been confirmed by the Scarlets favourite journalist on the Fever and any change would have to have gone through PRB which leaks like a sieve looks like the Hogg side at least is right. Looks like the new broom wants to select his staff. Shame for Hogg as he was highly competent compared to some of the people we have in off field positions. If we are bringing back former favourites then given Booth worked with Adam Jones as scrum coach at Quins I wonder if we will see a reconciliation there.
Cheers Fiddler, in some ways I’ve always liked the fact that ospreys don’t comment on appointments and signings until they are complete, but not great to hear about this first on SF. It did sound as if they were confident in what they were saying and interesting to know they are a journalist too.
Just had a quick look at the Fever and the posting claiming he has gone comes from one of their fans who is a welsh rugby journalist so there probably is something in it. He did a fantastic job technically with our driving maul but perhaps Booth feels he can cover this off. So I suspect this has got some legs. It may be why the Filo rumours have started or it may be that Booth is taking charge of the forwards.
I’m hoping that journo isn’t Steff Thomas. He has gone, some time ago. Our amazing HR dept fucked up the release again. What do you expect from a man whose business acumen is deputy manager at a regional leisure centre.

Shit ,we do seem to pick up players who become injury problems all of a sudden. gutted.
Are we without Annscome this season as well, that is tragic news if true.
Hopefully .

There's a zoom chat tonight isn't there or was it last night. Anscombe and a few others live ,receiving questions.
All quiet considering Booth arrived today, not much being said.
you're probably right. anything on an 8 coming in .
saw it on twittet i think.
Which forum is that on?
as long as he's better than the last guy from Nz ,the jaguars are releasing a lot of players ,anyone there we could go for.
on another forum greeno said that we have signed a quality 10 ,any names flying around.
The short answer is NO, he is no longer with the Ospreys.
If only half these rumours are true, we are having one hell of a reset this year. Long overd mind.

Is there any truth in this ?
