Cardiff v Ospreys (Judgement Day - really) Sat June 1st 17.30

So as a long, difficult and very exciting season comes to a close this Saturday afternoon, the Ospreys now know exactly what they need to do in their attempt to make the URC Top 8. Obviously, they have to win the game first and foremost but we need a Try Bonus Point to give us that chance of making the URC Playoffs. Now, other results will need to go our way as well and we will know by kick off if we have that chance as the 4 teams ahead of us all play before we do. The best we can hope for is 8th place.

A good hard fought win but once again our backline failed to function all we have to offer is brute strength . The Cardiff backs created space and overlaps and we looked clueless in attack and defence.

Don’t disagree that our backs are poor as a unit and we will struggle to win collisions against Munster. We have huge issues defending the right flank. But our budget is hugely weighted towards forwards and our two highest paid backs North and Cutty are injured.

I know it sounds crazy and bizarre, but I wonder how we would fare if we converted Tips to wing and bought in Deaves to replace him at 7. I reckon we would win a few more games based on Tips defensive skills not to mention his quick handling and vision.

I doubt they would do it but if Watkin and Walsh are not fit and Boshoff is not here I am not sure it would be a crazy at it sounds.

So on 55 mins and 65 mins respectively, neither of the 2 games are going the way we need them to. Benetton are currently Edinburgh 12-6 so we need an Edinburgh resurgence and hope that they do not allow Benetton a losing BP. At least in the other game, the Stormers are winning but the Lions currently have a losing BP.

He was gracious in congratulating us in fairness and has done a good job. The two teams are like chalk and cheese. We are all about power and high percentage conversion in red zone. They are about spectacular strikes. If we are to improve it will require two or three big back three players to complement what we have.

Other than Nagy our back three is really poor in the air in both defence and attack. It is the simplest and most obvious way we could improve to complement our forwards.

So the first result has gone our way with Leinster's 3rd string beating Connacht tonight so they can no longer qualify in the Top 8. Now we need the Stormers to beat the Lions and Edinburgh to beat Benetton, then all we need is a Bonus point win.

No surprises with the starting XV or the bulk of the squad but I am a little surprised to see Harri Houston in there.

I would presume that Jacky Walsh is carrying a niggle. Harri won't let the side down. With Josh Adams out Cardiff pose less of an aerial threat.

Cheetahs have no games scheduled so Lewis Jones is just training and Cameron Jonesprop has already returned but where are Liam Edwards, Lewis Marsh and Evan Hill? Toby was full of the praises for the Under 20 tight five. We could now do with a 6' 6", 20 stone lock to release Ratti to play 6.

It was a 6 week loan for SA cup so suspect all are back now. I think Edwards and Marsh will be battling against their lack of size. Hill looked a great prospect but don’t think he has played since last Junior RWC when he picked up an injury. I believe he is still eligible for under 20’s so could be in this years Junior RWC if he is now fit.
