The Ospreys return from their mini SA tour and have three full weeks to prepare for the start of an intense three weeks of Welsh derbies before finishing the season at home to the Bulls from SA. If the Ospreys are to win the Welsh Shield and finish as the best Welsh region, although a finish in the Top 8 might be beyond them, they need to win all of their remaining four games. The game against Cardiff will not be easy but the Ospreys should be able to call on as strong a squad as they have been able to for the first time this season.
I expect the 23 will look something like -
G Thomas N Smith S Parry D Lake T Francis T Botha A Beard AWJ/BBBD R Davies J Morgan M Morris E Roots D Lydiate/W Griffiths
R Webb RMW G Anscombe K Giles O Watkin G North A Cuthbert M Nagy M Collins M Protheroe
The starting side could look like -
G Thomas D Lake T Francis A Beard AWJ/BBBD D Lydiate/WG J Morgan M Morris
R Webb G Anscombe K Giles O Watkin G North A Cuthbert M Nagy
Reps
N Smith S Parry T Botha R Davies E Roots
RMW M Collins M Protheroe

I think its unquestionable that we have improved since y11 and booth has arrived. Squad has a much better balance in general, (admittedly there are still big issues in the backs). Results have improved also, we've started making the liberty more of a fortress with Munster and Ulster the notable wins. Booth has definitely earnt the right too take us through another season.
Its going to be interesting if he can take the squad the next step and start adding more of an attacking structure to our game. In that sense who he appoints as attack coach is key. He also needs to stop over relying on older heavy forwards and start adding more pace to the back five of the pack. The continued development of Rhys Davies, Deaves and Roots will help with that...how good would wainwright be at the back of our scrum? Lets hope Roots keeps improving and morse is a fast developer and Tips shoulder heals.
In the backs lets hope Jack Walsh can solve our problems at 10. I thought Webb looked a lot quicker on Saturday but we need an extra player at scrum half. I'd also like to see hawkins and north play in the centre together. Keelans performance against Cardiff was very encouraging, he seems to be finding his confidence, and surprisingly his burst seems to be returning. Dan evans should hopefully never play for us again..Nagy looks like he could be the real deal if he can stay injury free, if not I'd drop Collins back there. All this relies on a lot of players staying fit...perhaps we'll get lucky next season on the injury front.
I cant understand why after two seasons with a decent enough squad, we are still saying that things will get better in seasons to come…why…will we have a magical windfall of cash that will enable us to buy Fijian Flyers or Saffer Warriors, and why would they come anyway.? The younger players that we have , the likes of Griffiths. Deaves, Morgan, Morris, Davies are good enough to compete with most opposition but what we are concerned about is the lack of coaching and tactics and not the lack of decent players.
I've read the above posts and my line remains that the positive arguments are not to me convincing.
At the moment everything seems to be pie in the sky - there is nothing definite in trying to get better, I understand that this is a results business but at what cost, are we not being bored to death!.
Perhaps my interpretation is way off but the way I see it is that nothing will improve until the next world cup is over.
I will once again say that if we can't see the wood for trees and wake up and smell the coffee (sorry for the metaphors) we will loose support and certainly any walk up patrons, winning is and will always be important but professional rugby is also an entertainment business and we need to be very careful around the balance.
The failure to get bonus points in key games against the weaker teams is very much down to poor execution. The failure to pick up losing bonus points against good teams on the road is down to some very poor individual defending. Not many teams have shut down the Cardiff attack as effectively as we did yesterday. But poor execution cost us at least another couple of tries.
As far as I can remember, we won 2 games 2 seasons ago. Last season we won 8 (?) and this year we’re on 8 with the possibility of winning more. That represents steady progress from where we were IMO. I think a new attack coach will be important and it’s already been confirmed that Brock James is leaving. So a new view may help, it may not, but it’s something different and will hopefully take us to a higher league win ratio again next year. It’s been a difficult couple of games to watch recently but my glass is definitely half full too. Ymlaen Bois!
I'ts all well and beating an inept Cardiff team.
You only have to look at the welsh section of the league and see that the Scarlets are around 8points above us with the same amount of wins - that speaks volumes.
I appreciate that winning is always better than losing but when I saw Booth giving high fives etc in the stand, I find it very difficult to feel anything other than sadness.
Again I'll repeat myself in saying that the ospreys are in the entertainment business but this style is stretching my will to live.
The first half was unacceptable in many ways, very poor. The second half was better but I’m very worried about fundamental issues relating to selection and skill level in attack.
We are a slow team, lacking in basic skill. Very concerning.
I would love to know how many times this season we have been held up over the tryline. It seems as if we a couple of them in every match we play.
I’m just chuffed with an away derby win. cant imagine that too many were too optomistic beforehand.
It’s not realistic to expect our attempts to vary the attack to work. Varying the attack is a method for teams with pace/skill advantages. We lose collisions and breakdowns because we are slow to react.
We need to be far less ambitious, set targets and use big boys like Cuthbert to stretch the defence early. Playing off 9 only works close in or if we have players who can out-accelerate close defenders.
We should have scored 50 points simply by executing the maul better. When you pick the sort of side he did with Griffiths at 6 you have to execute that phase better. There is little variation to our maul and iof we think we can win through the maul it has to be a lot lot better. Defensively we were good but in attack we have absolutely no shape.
Comfortable in the end but we have zero attack.
No acceleration and no skill level. Two maul tries and an interception - just not good enough.
We know that we do not cut teams apart offensively and would much rather arm wrestle a team into submission so @TaI 's point about turning down points is bang on. Maybe we felt over confident in our maul but so far that has just not worked.
Big 40 minutes coming up.
Scrum is hugely concerning. Can Lake and Francis scrummage effectively with each other? Seemingly not.
This is unforgivable, why cant they even catch the ball? Why can’t they find the bloody grass when they are over the line…..we desperately need a basic skills coach to work with these players….teaching them how to catch…how to pass….how to place a ball over the try line…
Poor breakdown work, low skill level, no set piece dominance - yet we turn down points?
Pathetic. A typical pathetic Ospreys away performance.
Turning down points with such a poor maul and poor attack is UNFORGIVABLE
Typical error strewn performance, low standard.
Tom Francis has never played a poorer game.
Real clash of styles coming. Can we slow an opponent down on the road? I have my doubts.
Here is the team...
I got North wrong and did not put Myler in the 23 but other than that, happy with that team.
